One Pair Card Combination: A Relatively Low Yet Effective Hand in Winning Poker

Despite the relatively low value of a one pair card combination, poker players can still use this highly effective hand to win some games in poker. While having such poker hand does not necessarily translate into instant victories, talented players can always come up with numerous creative ways to score impressive wins. The use of bluffing, for example, can turn an underdog-kind of situation into a winnable one in an instant. In order to win in poker, players need to use their talents and skills to control the different games.

A one pair card combination refers to a set of five cards that is made up of a single pair combined with three unrelated cards. Unlike the two pair poker hand where a couple of pairs would be used as basis to determine if a player would win a game, the strength of a one pair card combination entirely depends on the single pair that it owns. To make such lowly situation much better, players need to make some necessary adjustments and use extraordinarily creative techniques and strategies to win such games.

To make things clearer, a classic example of a one pair poker hand would be the set 8, 8, 4, 9, and K, wherein the pair of eights would act as the basis upon which the player would fight in the game. In situations where another player may also have a similar one pair card combination such as a 10, 8, 8, Q, and J, the highest individual cards of both players aside from the pair would be compared. In this situation, the first player wins the game by virtue of a higher individual card that is a king compared to the queen of the latter.

Because there is a total of 1,098,240 potential one pair poker hands in an ordinary 52-card deck, each poker player has a very high 42.26 percent chance of getting this card combination. Given this high occurrence rate, majority of players must come up with creative ways to use this poker hand if they want to win more games. Reading the opponents cards as well as the different situations would be helpful for players if they want to score impressive victories. The use of various strategies, such as bluffing, may also help in certain situations.

If players are to look more closely at the pre-established poker hand rankings, a one pair poker hand can only defeat a lower one pair and all the other high card combinations. On the contrary, it may easily succumb to the power of other better poker hands like the two pair, three-of-a-kind, and straight card combinations. Furthermore, a flush, a full house, and a four-of-a-kind may easily win over the one pair poker hand. Simultaneously, one pairs cannot upend the almost unbeatable straight flushes and royal flushes.
